Hello Parents and Players,

It is time to start thinking about the 2023 Rye Girls Softball Spring Season! As of today, we have close to 200 players registered, which puts us in a great position to build right-sized teams across our Tee Ball, Minors, Majors, and Junior Leagues. Since registration is officially closed, I wanted to send out a brief welcome letter to everyone with some high-level information about the upcoming season. I will follow up this letter in the coming days and weeks with league-specific information.

Team Assignments

You will hear from coaches in early March with your team assignments. We are excited to have three 6U teams, four 8U teams, three 10U teams, two 12U teams, and one 14U team. As a member of District 20 (national little league), 8U and up will play towns in and around Westchester County as well as each other.  Our 6U league will be led by softball dad and resident Chris Marinak who brought great ideas to the table to make this season a blast for the littles.

Communication

We will use TeamSnap to communicate important information about our league., which you used to register, and our coaches will use that app to communicate with you directly once teams are set regarding schedules and other logistics.

Opening Day

More details to come, but our Opening Day Parade is scheduled for Saturday, April 22nd. For those who are new to the league, opening day is a throw-back kind of day with players holding team banners and chanting while they walk together to Disbrow field. At the field, players and families are met with goodies and a few speeches from the league presidents and city council. This is also a time to celebrate our many small business community sponsors.

While the parade will symbolize the “official” start to our season, we plan to start playing games in our 8U and up teams the week of April 10th and will have our first weekend of softball for our 6U/Tee Ball mid-to-late April when the weather warms up. As in the past, we will join forces with Rye Little League for the parade. Again, more details to come later.

Uniform Distribution/Required Equipment

We will distribute uniforms mid-March (they are custom and in a variety of colors and empowering team names). All players will receive a team jersey and a pair of black knee high socks. Players will be responsible for providing their own softball gloves, cleats, black baseball pants, and a batting helmet. The league provides catcher’s equipment, balls, training equipment, etc. Tee ball (6U) players can wear black leggings or shorts in place of black softball pants. Also for Tee ball (6U), bats and helmets will be available to use during practices and games for those who are not sure they want to purchase equipment just yet.

DICK’S Sporting Goods 20% Off Shopping Event

From Friday, March 17th through Monday, March 20th, the White Plains Dicks Sporting Goods store location will be hosting the annual Rye Girls Softball Discount Day to assist families and players with preparing for the upcoming baseball season. For those parents involved with Rye Little League, this is the same weekend as theirs will be. I will provide a coupon link for the event next month, which you will need to provide at checkout to receive the discount.

District 20 Affiliation

We are thrilled to begin our second season as a member of Little League Softball (District 20), which allows for play with surrounding communities in addition to our usual recreation play within our community. For more information on this national affiliation, please visit https://www.littleleague.org.

Lastly, we have created and online store with some Rye Girls Softball gear available to purchase if you are interested. You can find the store at this link:

On the behalf of the Rye Girls Softball Board, thank you for participating in Rye Girls Softball. We are really looking forward to another great season!\
